BREATH OF ANCIENT TIMES, WITNESS, VITALITY
There are few countries in the world, which have inherited such a multistratal historical and cultural variety of its territory. Bulgaria is peppered with remains of necropolises, settlements, fortresses, sanctuaries, roads, bridges and fountains from ancient times and Middle Ages.
Historical finds point to the fact that there was cultural and intellectual development and different religious believes. Cult places on our Bulgarian territory are numerous and various. This land is the home country of Orpheus and Spartacus. In this country, founded by some nations – proto- Bulgarians, Thracians and Slavs, the Bulgarian people have been living together in a tolerant manner with Turks, Armenians, Jews, Rumanians, Karakachans and many other minorities for centuries and so far.
We offer tours with a visit to monasteries, churches with unique icons and wood iconostases, Moslem Holy places, Catholic monasteries, Russian, Rumanian, Evangelistic, Armenian churches, synagogues, participation in interesting rituals and customs.
And visits to the objects of UNESCO for world natural and cultural heritage: tombs from Thracian times – the Domed Tomb in the town of Kazanlak (IV – III century BC) and the Big Chandler’s Tomb (III century BC) near the town of Isperih, the monumental rocky relief from the time of the First Bulgarian Kingdom – Òhe Madara Rider near the town of Shumen, the Rocky Monasteries (IX – XII century) near the village of Ivanovo in the valley of the River Russenski Lom (or so called Polomieto, where originates polomnichestvoto – the place where clergymen from other Slavic counters made a pilgrimage in), the Rila Monastery (X c.) in the mountain of Rila, the Boyan Church (1259) near the city of Sofia.
Bulgaria became the first Slavonic literary centre, when the capital of Pliska receives the students of the holy brothers Ciril and Methodius. Upon their coronation the French kings swore an oath on the Reims Gospel, which is a transcript (XI – XIV c.) from the Old-Bulgarian gospel of XI c., written in Cyrillic alphabet (Bulgarian alphabet). Nowadays you can see the Reims Gospel in the town library of the town of Reims, France.
One of the ancient civilizations, inhabited these lands in the fifth millenium AD created so called Varna Golden Treasure – the oldest golden treasure, discovered in the world up to now. The last excavations near the village of Starosel in the region of the mountain Sredna Gora and the Village of Perperek near the town of Kardzhali placed new questions before the scientists – what the relationship between Mikena and the population of Thracia was, if the town and sanctuary at Perperek are only Thracian or an act of more ancient people. It is already known that the origin of proto-Bulgarians is very old, it stems from Tibet, and their people were great and powerful. Throughout the centuries monasteries were part of the most important cultural, educational and literal centres, where lived and worked famous clergymen.
Isn’t our land a cradle of the most ancient civilization in Europe and the world? One of the last disclosures of an European scientist is that probably here but not in Mesopotamia or China was born the first human writing.
